List of Defunct IPL Teams That Won the Title

A list of IPL franchises that are no longer active but won the IPL title during their existence.

5 itemsUpdated Mar 23, 2026

Of the fifteen franchises that have participated in the IPL across 18 seasons, five have since become defunct. Only one of them — Deccan Chargers — won the IPL title before ceasing operations. Deccan Chargers, based in Hyderabad, won the title in 2009 in South Africa under Adam Gilchrist, one year after finishing last in the inaugural edition. They were terminated by the BCCI in September 2012 after a franchise dispute and replaced by Sunrisers Hyderabad for the 2013 season. Other defunct franchises — Kochi Tuskers Kerala, Pune Warriors India, Rising Pune Supergiant, and Gujarat Lions — never won the title, though Rising Pune Supergiant came closest, losing the 2017 final to Mumbai Indians by just 1 run.
