Deccan Chargers, based in Hyderabad, won the IPL in 2009 — their second season — under Adam Gilchrist's captaincy in South Africa, defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore by 6 runs. They had finished last in 2008. The franchise was terminated by the BCCI in September 2012 due to contractual disputes, and was replaced by Sunrisers Hyderabad from 2013.
