The ICC T20 World Cup, inaugurated in 2007, has seen ten editions produce six different champions. India stand as the most successful team with three titles, including a historic back-to-back triumph in 2024 and 2026 — the first team to successfully defend the title in T20 World Cup history. The 2026 final in Ahmedabad was a dominant display by India. Sanju Samson scored 89 off 46 balls — the highest individual score in a T20 World Cup final — while Abhishek Sharma (52 off 18 balls) set a record for the fastest fifty in a knockout game. India posted 255/5, the highest total in any T20 World Cup final. Jasprit Bumrah then dismantled New Zealand with 4/15, the first four-wicket haul in a T20 World Cup final. West Indies won back-to-back titles in 2012 and 2016, the latter featuring Carlos Brathwaites unforgettable four consecutive sixes off Ben Stokes. England also claimed two titles in 2010 and 2022, with their Melbourne triumph coming through Sam Currans brilliant bowling. Australia (2021), Pakistan (2009), and Sri Lanka (2014) each have one title to their name. The tournament has grown from 12 teams in 2007 to 20 teams in recent editions, cementing its place as one of crickets premier events.
