A tie in T20 cricket — when both teams end 20 overs on the same score — triggers one of sport's most dramatic tiebreakers: the Super Over. Each side sends in three batters and one bowler for a single over, and the team scoring more runs wins. The IPL has produced 15 tied matches since its first edition in 2008, the first occurring in Cape Town in 2009 when Rajasthan Royals beat Kolkata Knight Riders in the inaugural Super Over. The most dramatic of all was the 2014 encounter between the same two teams, which saw the Super Over itself end in a tie — Rajasthan Royals winning only by boundary countback. IPL 2020 remains the busiest season for ties, producing a record four tied matches including the IPL's first and only Double Super Over between Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings. Delhi Capitals have appeared in the most Super Overs (5) and hold the best record with 4 wins, while Punjab Kings have won 4 Super Overs to lead all franchises in Super Over victories.
