In a match with immense historical consequence, Steve Austin defeated Owen Hart at 16:16 to win the Intercontinental title. Tragically, Austin suffered a severe stinger and broken neck from a botched sit-out tombstone piledriver, but miraculously managed to roll Hart up for the pin.

Main Event — Shawn Michaels accidentally costs Taker the title

Bret Hart defeated The Undertaker to win the WWF Championship at 28:19. Special guest referee Shawn Michaels swung a steel chair at Hart (who had spit on him), but Hart ducked, causing Michaels to strike The Undertaker. Michaels reluctantly counted the pin, fulfilling a pre-match stipulation that forced him to leave the USA if he didn't call it fairly.
