The inaugural Survivor Series on November 26, 1987 was created by Vince McMahon to run directly against WCW's Starrcade — threatening cable companies who wanted to carry Starrcade with loss of WrestleMania access. The event introduced the 5-on-5 elimination tag team format that would define the event for decades. André the Giant's team defeated Hulk Hogan's team in the main event with André as the sole survivor.
