Shawn Michaels defeats Bret Hart — New Champion in Sudden Death Overtime

Shawn Michaels' WWF Championship victory over Bret Hart in the Iron Man Match was one of the most significant title changes in WWF history — and the fulfilment of the 'boyhood dream' promotional narrative. Despite the 60-minute regulation period ending 0-0, Gorilla Monsoon ordered sudden death continuation. In the overtime period, Michaels hit a sudden Sweet Chin Music superkick for the decisive pin. The title change ended Bret Hart's third championship reign — which had begun on November 18, 1995 when Hart defeated Diesel. Hart's reign had lasted 134 days. Michaels' subsequent championship run included successful defences before losing the title to Sycho Sid at Survivor Series 1996 after sustaining a knee injury.

Bodydonnas win Tag Titles from tournament — Pre-Show

The Bodydonnas — Skip and Zip, managed by Sunny — won the vacant WWF Tag Team Championship in the tournament final against The Godwinns on the WrestleMania XII Free For All pre-show. The titles had been vacated in February 1996, leading to the tournament. Sunny's distraction of Phineas Godwinn allowed Skip to roll him up for the pin. The Bodydonnas' reign was brief — they lost the championships within two months.
